In his 12th fight, undefeated Queensland prospect Jalen Tait was taking on former two-division Australian champion Kye Mackenzie, who was far more experienced.
This battle would choose the new Australian Lightweight Champion.
From the first round, Jalen was showing off his accuracy by landing powerful hard shots on Mackenzie’s body whenever Mackenzie moved forward. After a few rounds, these powerful hard shots started landing on Mackenzie’s head as well. By continuing to come forward and taking hard blows to the head and body round after round, McKenzie demonstrated how strong his chin is.In the middle rounds, McKenzie did begin to achieve his own success, landing powerful right hands on Taits head. Tait handled them well and continued to use the entire ring to his advantage.
Mackenzie moved forward in the final two rounds, sensing that he needed a stoppage to win, but he was unable to stop Jalen.
The fight was won by Jalen Tait by unanimous decision, 98-92 x2 and 97-93.
