Johnson Claims Australasian Women’s Flyweight Crown
Australia’s Charlotte Johnson captured the vacant Australasian Women’s Flyweight title with a dominant six-round unanimous decision over New Zealand’s Sarah Linton at Gatton Fight Night V, promoted by Noel Thornberry at the historic Gatton Shire Hall on Saturday, 30 May 2026. It was only the third time that this title had ever been contested.
The event formed part of a strong professional card that attracted a large and enthusiastic crowd to the Lockyer Valley.
The judges had little difficulty separating the pair on the scorecards, however the bout proved to be one of the most entertaining fights of the evening.
Johnson displayed excellent ring craft, sharp combinations and superior timing throughout the contest, controlling the action from the opening bell and taking every round with her polished boxing skills.
To her credit, New Zealand challenger Sarah Linton never stopped trying to turn the tide. Despite being outboxed, Linton showed determination and courage, constantly pressing forward and looking for opportunities to land meaningful punches. Her willingness to engage and compete right until the final bell won the admiration of the crowd.
Johnson’s performance was a showcase of technical boxing, as she consistently beat Linton to the punch, controlled the distance and dictated the pace across all six rounds. However, the fight was far more competitive than the scorecards suggested.
At the conclusion of six hard-fought rounds, Johnson was awarded a unanimous decision victory, earning the Australasian Women’s Flyweight Title.
