Split Draw in ANBF Lightweight Title

Melbourne Pavilion another Sold out Team Ellis event for the Australian Lightweight Title between Tommy Fitzgerald and Alec Kumar. Both boys entering the ring with the title belt in site. The crowd stood as the National anthem is played.

Both athletes in tremendous shape as they are called to centre ring for their final instructions. As the bell rings Tommy Fitzgerald rushes to centre, the South Paw Alec Kumar boxes beautifully off the back foot landing clean shots. Tommy Fitzgerald controlling the round with aggression and pushing the action. This was a sea sawing affair with Alec Kumar picking up the aggression and landing cleaner shots in round 3 and 4.Round 5 Both boys holding trying to gain position causing referee Anthony Hibbs to administer warnings. As the bell goes to start round 6 Kumar lands a solid shot and Tommy definitely knew this kid wanted this badly. With all the middle rounds in the balance Tommy come out firing in round 8 and clearly sealing the points, was this a game plan by the Kumar camp as round 9 and 10 Kumar landing clean shots with Tommy still pushing forward trying to stop the clean hands of Kumar. With 15 secs to go in the final round Kumar leaves nothing in the tank and lands a barrage on Tommy, who withstands the onslaught and the bell rings for the final time.

Great bout by both young athletes with the judges scoring 95-95 96-94 Kumar 95-95 Majority Draw.
