On Saturday 21st October 2023 at the Western Hotel, Melbourne, John Mannu and Blake Minto competed for the vacant Australian Super-Lightweight title. From the opening bell the contest was a fought at a high pace and was very competitive with both boxers scoring to both the body and head throughout the contest. Generally, but not always, John Mannu was the boxer controlling the action, moving forward and landing slightly cleaner punches than Blake Minto. The continual pressure was shown as Blake Minto twice lost a point for spitting out his mouth guard. After a very competitive contest John Mannu was declared the winner by unanimous decision and the new Men’s Australian Super-Lightweight champion. The final scores were 99/89, 99,89, 100/88.
