Gattuso came on stronger. Wins Australasian Cruiserweight Title

On Wednesday 8th April 2026, promoter Huss El Achrafi promoted the vacant Australasian Men’s Cruiserweight title at William Inglis Hotel between Salvatore Gattuso and Freddy Doidoi.

From the start, the fighters appeared fit and evenly matched.  Doidoi secured the first round with several jabs and a right hand to the head of Gattuso.  In response, Gattuso mainly landed on the gloves and arms of his opponent.

Gattuso came on stronger in the second round and had Doidoi in trouble with a right to the head.  Gattuso suffered a cut above the left eye by a legitimate blow in round three which did not affect his performance.

Both boxers were toe to toe, exchanging heavy blows during the next few rounds.  They tried hard for a knockout finish, sensing it was coming to a close decision on the scorecards, with one judge scoring a draw and two judges in favour of Gattuso.

Salvatore Gattuso became the new Australasian Men’s Cruiserweight title by majority points decision.
