Tait progresses to 10-0 and retains the Australasian Lightweight title.

Tait was making the first defence of his title against Evans, the experienced amateur with over 120 fights. Tait using his very unorthodox southpaw style, with his hands very low and coming in with lead right looping uppercuts, followed up by straight right hands. Very often he would land, but Evans was experienced enough to use his ring craft to evade some of the heavy shots. Evans showed his toughness, and as the rounds went on Tait become more precise as Evans defence and movement started to slow. In round 7, Tait landed a straight left that opened a nasty cut over Evans’s right eye. Dr James Conville has a look at the cut at the end of the round and decided to stop the fight. Tait progresses to 10-0 and retains the Australasian Lightweight title. Scores at the time of the stoppage were 60-53 x2 and 59-54 all for Tait.
