Duncombe Retains Australian Cruiserweight Title in Townsville.

Australian cruiserweight champion Lochlan Duncombe successfully retained his Australian title, securing a  corner retirement win over challenger Tristan Maskell at the Brothers Leagues Club in Townsville.

The outdoor event battled through early rain, but a timely break in the weather allowed the headline bout to proceed. Once the fighters got underway, the contest delivered exactly what the local crowd came for: steady action, momentum swings, and high-level domestic boxing.

Maskell produced several successful bursts throughout the fight, testing the champion and earning the respect of those watching. However, the cleaner, heavier, and more consistent work came from Duncombe, who controlled the tempo and range behind disciplined pressure.

By the end of the seventh round, Maskell’s trainer, Nathan Swadling, informed referee Chris Condon that his fighter would not continue. Duncombe held clear leads on all 3 scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

The event marked the first professional promotion from Cameron Miller and his company Triple SSS Promotions, which aims to establish itself as a major player in the Australian boxing landscape. Delivering a national title fight in challenging conditions was a strong opening statement.

Duncombe, a proud Townsville native trained by former Australian cruiserweight champion Luke Modini, continues to build momentum as one of the country’s rising forces in the division. Maskell, representing the Newcastle region, showed toughness and ambition throughout but ultimately fell short against the defending champion.
