Both combatants were well prepared for this bout. The champion, Jessica Messina scored with fast exchange of jabs to gain the advantage as the fight progressed. An accidental head clash in round 6 caused a cut above Blencowe’s right eye with her corner men managing to attend to it satisfactorily. Messina worked hard to retain her title with Blencowe announcing her retirement at 42 years of age immediately after the contest.
