ANBF Presidents report. Friday 24th November 2024
Hi all gives me great pleasure to commence a regular update of the ANBF.
Let me first start off with the structure of the ANBF which is often misunderstood. It consists of State branches that are legal non-for-profit entities under respective State regulation. The National body is a limited liability non-for-profit company that consists of directors and executives voted in by the State branches. The National ANBF executives conduct the business of the National ANBF which is primarily managing and developing the Australian and Australasian titles. Other activities are acting as supervisor for boxing shows in States and Territories that do not have a body that does this, having a director on the Board of the Commonwealth Boxing Council, and general development work.
Our executive team consists of myself as President, Laura Cuchi as Vice President, Rodney March as Secretary, Adaam Height as Treasurer, and Anthony Hibbs as the national rating officer. Laura is the first female to be a director of the ANBF and we were thrilled when she joined. Antony Hibbs replaced John Hogg who undertook the ratings for decades, and we are also delighted wit the approach Anthony is undertaking.
Top of our priorities are the Australian and Australasian titles. Here our issues of focus have included:
- Having sanctioning rules that are understood, transparent, suited to the industry, and fair to all
- Having a high appreciation of the role of our titles in the industry, and adapting as the industry changes
- Undertaking constant improvements, such as the Australian title belt which recently had the first nations flag added, website and social media
- Providing support to our the ANBF members and acting to assist and improve the industry.
The 2025 year has the ANBF working to further enhance our titles, to provide pathways for our boxers, and to assist our promotors who are the lifeblood of our professional boxing industry.
The State branches welcome people that would like to be involved and would like to contribute. ANBF contact details are on the website.
Having outlined the structure and role of the ANBF, in my next article I would like next to talk about the challenge we see and our thinking on these matters.
Yours sincerely
Andrew Campbell
National President, Australian National Boxing Federation
