Amateur sensation Justis Huni lived up to the hype on Thursday night as he dominated and then stopped Australian Heavyweight Champion Faiga ‘Django’ Opelu in his professional debut at Fortitude Valley Queensland
Now 1-0, he is the new Australian Heavyweight Champion.
The Django corner threw in the towel midway through the seventh round, promoting referee Philip Holiday to stop the bout.
Huni recently won Bronze by at the Amateur World Championships, and is a favourite to medal at next year’s rescheduled Tokyo Olympics.
He stayed very composed throughout the early rounds, showcasing his speed and precision at will.
Django certainly didn’t go down without a fight. He showed tremendous resilience and durability, and kept pushing forward until his corner threw in the towel 1 min 21 sec in the 7th Rnd
After the fight, Huni said he wasn’t overawed by the occasion.
His plan is to unify the heavyweight division by the time he is 30.
